Nurturing a More Compassionate Culture in Canada

There are several upcoming events the Compassion Coalition will be part of in the near future and other events we're looking forward to helping out with. The success of these events depends critically on the energy and care that you, and people like you, bring to them.

Please make sure to check out these events below and consider helping us to reweave supportive relationships creating more compassionate and joyful communities.

Weekly Potluck (Sunday, 6pm)

The intention of the potlucks is simply to create a welcoming space where people can gather together, eat delicious food while creating supportive relationships, and gather energy for larger events.

The Weekly Potlucks will now be held behind the Fernwood Community Center, Sunday at 6pm. If the weather tomorrow is not conducive to the potluck (cold and rainy), then the Fernwood Community Center has graciously allowed us to use their space for the potluck. Just go up the stairs to the second floor and we'll be there waiting for you.

Nacho Average Macho (April 17th)

Our friend Steve Parr is putting on a forum at the Cornerstone Cafe in Fernwood, April 17th, which will be looking at the changing role of men in society and ways to connect with and embrace masculine energy. This should be a really interesting event, with some awesome food and speakers.

Chris Turner (April 25th)

As part of Earth Week, we are going to be welcoming Chris Turner to do a talk at the Alix Goolden Hall on April 25th.

Chris Turner's new book, The Geography of Hope: A Tour of the World We Need, is the author's personal journey around the world for positive solutions to the climate change crisis. The book goes beyond the usual fear and hopelessness surrounding the issue and brings into the light the many inspiring examples of community-driven solutions from Asia, Europe, North America, and Latin America.

We're looking to welcome between 600-800 people for this event so it's going to be a big one.

Earth Awake (May 9th)

Earth Awake is the Compassion Coalition's next big event. This event will feature music from folk to funky dub with raw chocolate and spoken word. It's being held at the Victoria Event Center on Friday May 9th.

This event is going to cost roughly $1500 to throw so we need to do some fundraising before the event. This is a big challenge so I'm putting it out there to the group to help come up with some ideas for how we might meet this challenge. There are a couple ideas I've had, nothing is written in stone, so we're completely open to more suggestions. The two ideas I've had are: 1) To gather donations and, 2) To pre-sell the event. Pre-selling cost for the event is $10 and tickets at the door will be $15.

More than asking you to contribute some amount money, we're asking you to participate and we're looking to work with your creative energy. We're looking for roughly 10 volunteers who will be able to help us do things such as set-up, tear-down, decorations, door, and outreach/promotions.

Together, we can make this an awesome event and everyone of us has skills to create a welcoming space for a fun, creative, evening.

Earth Dance (Sept. 13th)
http://www.earthdance.org/

We are going to be working with several top organizers throughout Victoria on this amazing and creative and inspiring event. This is a global event which has the vision of nurturing a culture of peace. This is a natural fit for the Compassion Coalition, which has a vision of nurturing more caring, loving relationships and evoking a more compassionate culture.
